    The Mission of TMA Library

    The mission of the Library and Documentation Branch Directorate within the Dean's Office of the Turkish Military Academy is to support education and training by providing printed and electronic information resources that cadets and other personnel need in their social, cultural and academic activities, informing the users and taking the necessary measures to make maximum use of these resources.

    Main Goals of Turkish Military Academy Library

    • To determine the information needs of cadets and other personnel and to enable them benefit from information services more quickly and effectively,
    • To offer advanced research opportunities equipped with modern information technologies.
    • By identifying printed and electronic information sources, providing opportunities and resources to support the education and research activities of users, maintaining the up-to-dateness of the library,
    • To facilitate the access of the Turkish Military Academy academic staff to our information resources without the barrier of time and place.

    Collection and Layout

    On the 1st floor, Atatürk library, periodicals, military memorabilia library, lending counter and administrative units,

    On the 2nd floor, private study rooms, publications on Language and Linguistics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Technology (applied sciences) and Arts,

    On the 3rd floor, publications on General Subjects, Philosophy and Psychology, Religion, Social sciences, Literature, History/Geography are in use.

    Services

    In the library, which has a seating capacity of 300 people, the book collection is arranged according to the LC classification system and is available to readers with an open-access system on three floors.

    Scientific and cultural publications on every subject are purchased for the library in line with the library's purposes and reader requests. Many periodicals with scientific and cultural content are procured by subscription and put into service on a regular basis.

    Readers doing research in the library are provided with a consultation (reference) service if requested.

    NDU Library Documentation Department is subscribed to various electronic databases and as such cadets, faculty members and all other personnel can benefit from these services from all internet computers serving in the Turkish Military Academy. There are thousands of scientific journals and e-books in these databases.

    Free copying services up to 10% of the number of pages are provided from periodicals and reference sources that are not taken out of the library.

    Since the library serves with an open-access system, readers can freely utilize the books.

    The library provides service 7 days a week, on weekdays and weekends, including lunch break.

    Principles of Library Use

    10 publications are lent for 20 days to the Military Academy personnel, Military Students and Alparslan SAVMİLGEN regulars, who are subject to the exmatriculation protocol from the library, and 20 publications to the academic staff for 30 days. Readers may extend the borrowing period of the publications they receive for another 20 days for one time only.

    Non-book works, reference resources, thesis-project and the latest issues of periodicals are not lent outside the library.


    History of the Library

    The library served in the Atatürk Site, where the historical main building was located between the years of 1936-1983, on the ground floor of the Dean's Office between 1983-1989, and on the 5th floor between 1989-1999.

    The school library has been providing its services on an area of 2600 m2 in the B Block of the 13 March Culture Site since September 27, 1999.
